Location Research

In Fifth Harmony's video BO$$ they use very plain backgrounds with different colours. Me and Lizzie would really like to find somewhere like this for our music video. This is because it is effective and would look represent our genre of music, due to bright colours representing fun/ young meanings.

Fifth Harmony also use different lighting/ shadowing effects in their videos as shown in the gif to the left. I really like this effect and would like to use different lighting and effects in our video.

Another artist from this genre (Katy Perry) uses bright coloured locations in her video. Our chosen genre of music is dance/ pop, after researching into lots of different locations and videos we have discovered that these videos represent bold locations.

Marina and The Diamonds uses a bar scene in her video 'Blue'. I would like to include this as a location in our video. We have a possible location already that can help us create a similar shot in a local bar/ club.




Marina and other artists in this genre also use very dark/ neon locations where aspects like props and costume stand out and represent a narrative. This is something I would like to try in my video, I think it would be good to experiment with different lighting and costume/ prop effects to ensure my video stands out.

Additionally, I have researched into Cher Lloyds music videos. Her music is in the same genre of our chosen song. The locations used are also very colourful and represent a narrative.

A mixture of inside and outdoor locations are used in artists videos for example in Cher's video and other artists such a Rita Ora and The Saturdays, locations such as the streets are used. And in other scenes that use locations inside use bars and edited backgrounds.





Cher uses a lot of establishing shots e.g. of buildings and city's. This is a common convention found in music videos and is something me and Lizzie are willing to try.

Finally, I have researched into the locations used in Ariana Grande's videos, especially the video for 'I love the way' ft Mac Miller. This video has given me and Lizzie really good ideas for our location.

Before watching this video we were struggling to think of effective locations similar to real music videos from the pop/ dance genre of music. However in Ariana's video she uses a projection screen for her background, I think this looks really good, this is something that me and Lizzie could achieve.

Ariana's video doesn't actual present many locations however it is the editing techniques and the projection screen that changes the location entirely.






Ariana also use balloons and props to make the location look different from other scenes. This type of location is something that me and Lizzie would love to have and create.

The different colours represent the upbeat genre of dance and pop, which is similar to our chosen song, the location has influenced this because it is a big, plain open space and therefore you are able to edit the original shots using different techniques.




After researching into the different locations used in music videos of a similar genre to ours, it has influenced our decision in locations, we now have some really good ideas for our music video for example we are now trying to get a projection screen for when we film.
