The mise en scene and costumes in this video look really good, for example the scene when they are all dressed in white/ glamorous dresses looks professional and is a look we are aiming for. They are also all wearing similar clothing in most of the scenes, I think it would be a good idea to have all of our artists dressed in the same colours and style of clothing, this is to represent them as a group. In addition in individual, one person shot scenes they could be presented in a different piece of clothing to represent their personalities and style.
Litte Mix- Move

The Little Mix video also uses 2 person, 3 person and 4 person shots, this is something that I would like to include in my video not only to show the group and artists as a whole but also to show individual artists.
I like this shot because of the neon lights and the dark lighting, this is something we want to include in our video, not necessarily big neon lights, but maybe neon paint and wrist bands for a contrasting effect with dark lighting. It doesn't just make the scene stand out but it makes the artist look better suiting the genre of music and the song.
Fifth Harmony- Worth it

I also looked at another Fifth Harmony video to get additional ideas of how they brand and style themselves. Worth It includes similar aspects of the BO$$ video, such as bright colors, costume and make-up. The video includes lots of one person shots to represent individual characters, this helps the audience understand each person in the group and also shows close up shots of different mise en scene e.g. makeup, nails, accessories etc.

I also liked the close up shot of Fifth Harmony walking e.g. so you are able to see their shoes, this type of shot has been used in a lot of videos in the pop/ dance genre of music such as The Saturdays, therefore me and Lizzie have been thinking of using a similar shot in our video. It is also a good way to represent a location and clothing of the artists.
Overall I really enjoy watching and listening to Fifth Harmony songs and their videos, by researching into this group it has helped me with initial ideas, alot of the conventions are similar to Andrew Goodwins theory, I think it would be a good idea to follow some of these conventions especially those aiming at our target audience.
The Saturdays- What About Us
Link to Video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6YLi0GNBTk
The Saturdays are a similar group to Fifth Harmony and use similar conventions in their videos. I particularly like this one person shot/ long shot because it represents the location they are in and their clothing/ style. I feel like the background and colours in this shot are eye catching and are something that you come across in conventions of this genre.
In the What About Us video they used an establishing shot of the city, representing the location of the video, this shot also used editing to speed up the scene which showed the lighting changing, I really like this effect and its is something me and Lizzie are considering to include in our video.
The video also used alot of group shots and dancing/ choreography routines. This shows the group as a whole and looks very effective. I think that in our video due our artists being a girl group that group dancing would be a really good idea and make it look professional.

Night scenes are used in this video and different lighting effects. I really like the idea of filming at night because it gives a good effect that is different to natural lighting.
The editing in this video uses many cuts and fades, I especially like it when one scene fades into another and is something I will consider including in our video.
Marina and the Diamonds- Hollywood
Link to Video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1VTcJfL7RE
Despite Marina not necessarily being in our genre of music, I really enjoy her video for Hollywood. I am a big fan of Marina Diamondis and therefore have been inspired by her for some initial ideas for our video such as her bold make-up and different/ not so conventional music videos. This close up shot of Marina's mouth miming the words works really well, I think it would be a really good idea to use close up shots to show the quality of miming and also the makeup used (e.g. red lipstick).
A reflection shot is used in this scene, it represents Marina singing into a mirror but also looking into the camera, I think that this shot is different and not necessarily conventional but works really well.
The use of props in this video is very large for example American flags, confetti, different costumes representing the USA and the narrative of the song Hollywood. I really like the idea of different props in a music video which is something to consider for my own work.
In the Hollywood video Marina was surrounded by crowds of people, obviously we won't be able to get a lot of extra/ backing people however after auditions for our artists we were thinking of keeping some individuals for back up dancers to add to the effect of the video.
Marina and The Diamonds- Blue

Recently Marina has released a new video following her new album Froot. The song blue was filmed at Dreamland (a fairground park/ theme park near to where me and Lizzie live). I really like the video due to the editing effects for example some of the photo filters resemble a 'vintage/ old style' theme, similar to the filters used in The Saturdays video What About Us. The video is full of colours and fast cuts which are really effective and work well.
The costume/ clothing and mise en scene in Blue are really effective, the location is shown through establishing shots and by the use of props e.g. fairground rides, a ferris wheel and cars. If it is possible me and Lizzie are able to visit Dreamland theme park due to it being set near our location, this would be really good research and help us decide where to set our music video.
The lighting is very bright and colourful in Blue and looks really eye catching and outstanding. This has been done by using editing techniques but also props and lighting on set.
The use of props e.g. candy floss also resembles the location of which the music video is set.
Similar to other videos such as Fifth Harmony and Little Mix, Marina has used neon lighting in her video with darker lighting. The editing in Marina's video is a quick pace and uses lots of cuts. It also includes different shots and camera movement e.g. panning upwards and 360 degree turns. Me and Lizzie are going to try and use as many different shots as possible that might not necessarily be conventional in a music video.
Katy Perry- This Is How We Do
Link to Video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RMQksXpQSk
Similar to Marina and The Diamonds video Blue, Katy Perry's video This Is How We Do uses bright backgrounds e.g. blue's and pinks with bright contrasting outfits. The use of CGI in this video is really good and out standing to an audience. The video is different and uses a lot of different shading and lighting techniques that work really well.
I especially like this scene with the neon lights similar to lots of other videos I have looked at, the use of smoke and bright costume but also neon background lights look really good.
I picked out this scene/ shot to anayse because I really like the background used. A similar use of background and font is used in Marina's video Blue, this is something me and Lizzie could possibly achieve in our video after coming up with some initial ideas for our location
Ke$ha- We R Who We R
Link to Video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXvmSaE0JXA
Kesha's video uses lots of different editing techniques such as fading from one shot to another/ dissolves and fast pace cuts.
Ke$ha's video is American themed similar to Marina and The Diamonds video Hollywood. I feel like it would be a good idea to have an American/ USA theme, this is because our chosen song is produced by American Artists, it would also add a little extra to our video and suit the narrative of our song.
This shot represents one scene fading into another, I think that this is really effective and works well.
This close up shot shows the expression and mood of the song, We R Who We R is an upbeat song and in our chosen genre of music. Therefore it would be a good idea to use similar conventions from this video in my own.
Additionally I really like the bold makeup and visual effects used in this video for example her nails, accesories and glittery make-up it also is a similar colour to the background, this looks really effective and makes the scene bold and stand out more than others.
